2017 plans

Ok, Larkspur is officially back at 99¢ on all platforms. This is after having the best month ever for free downloads- I’m at 1465 downloads on Amazon alone (not counting the B&N/Kobo downloads, or the ~700 insta-freebie downloads). That’s an astounding number of people potentially reading my work. I’m actually a little intimidated, but super excited for (hopefully) some new reviews in the coming weeks.
I thought since Larkspur will now be free from Instafreebie in return for signing up to my newsletter, I’d better make it a buck everywhere else. I’m also planning on a few stand-alone stories that will be on the instafreebie mailing list page for free, but cost money on Amazon and everywhere else.
Now will that be worth it? Am I going to go from over 20 downloads a day to nothing because of the cost of a candy-bar? I don’t know. Likely it’ll drop significantly. Maybe I should have waited until this freebie rush ended, but maybe it’ll be better with all the eyes on it?

It’s been really fun though. I’m loving taking a forward approach with marketing and getting new eyes on my stuff.

As 2016 is wrapping up I’m working on big plans for 2017. Delphinium will be out, and those on my newsletter will get an Advanced Reader Copy (it’ll be the same edition I send to my beta readers, so there may be small issues and some changes between it and the final edition, but nothing super major), and I want those stand-alone books done too. I want to sketch out and get a good chunk of The Wolf Within done, not to mention start (and finish?) Aconitella, the third book in The Larkspur Series.
Yes, I know it’s a lot of work, far more than I’ve managed to do before, but I’m feeling good. A lot of my symptoms and issues with depression and OCD are getting under control. I changed my diet, I’m (trying to) remember my meds.. I know I’ll still have bad days, maybe a bad week here or there, but if I feel as good as I do today, I think I can make writing more of a proper full-time ‘sit down and work’ thing.
So yes- Happy New Year to all, I hope you meet your goals and plans. I’m being a  bit ambitious, but if I even get half of what I want done I’ll be pleased. And I hope you all will be too.

Notebooks and plans

First thing’s first- there’s this new amazing notebook  program that I saw on reddit. The creator is super awesome, and while the program is a little bare-bones right now, there’s already major updates planned that will in just a few weeks make this the best organization/writing program ever.

http://www.notebook.ai/

You get to input characters, places, items, and will be able to include races, family trees, scenes- the whole shebang. I’ve already started adding in some characters and places. The cool thing is that there’s a list of questions for each person/place/thing- their age, how they look, what they like, where the thing is from. It helps you think and plot more thoroughly.

You can also show off your notebooks to others. I fully intend to make use of this and have a link  in the sidebar to show off Noctuina.

This also has me plotting more in general. I’ve gotten the timelines more set for the Larkspur series- I know where books 3 and 4 start and end, and roughly what goes on during this time. I have a start for The Wolf Within and I’m plotting that out as well. I’ve even back-tracked to Incubo and made some adjustments even though I plan to have that stand-alone out only after the City of Dreams series.

That’s not to mention still the other handful of projects I have popping up as wanting to be next in line.

And I am writing! I got a lot done last night, a good chunk of Delphinium and some in The Wolf Within. Writing sprints are really helpful.

I might try and make the next Scene from Ibella, where Incubo and City of Dreams takes place.

Summertime work

Everything is done! Now I have.. one week until things get hectic again.

Plenty of time! (No, I am not saying Delphinium will be out in a week. Writing it asap, but don’t have a date set yet.)

Today I listened to more of the self-publishing podcast, and made the cover for book 4 – Regalis. Yup, the Larkspur Series is not a trilogy, it’s actually six planned books. Though I suppose the two halves are different enough that you could call them a duo of trilogies. Here’s the cover:

(The more covers I make, the more I love them. I think Regalis is my favourite. Going from a ‘blood in the painting’ to ‘blood on a photo’ sort of theme.)

Regalis is actually a fairly common species name. There are many plants, insects and such that are called ___ regalis. Consolida regalis is one of them- the field larkspur.

Now, how about Delphinium? Well, I am writing it. It should be 30-35K, more than double the first story. Far more plot threads are appearing, the rest of life is starting to crowd Pierre’s time and privacy. There is more revealed about magic, the land, even some of the neighboring places as well.

I have tea, I’ll be up tonight writing and maybe get into more details in another post.

Ah, and I’ve also decided on a subtitle. At first ‘A Necromancer’s Romance’ was just a subtitle for Larkspur so that people would know about the content. I thought I would eventually take it off and just call it ‘Larkspur’ (and I usually just refer to it as such). But I’m starting to like the explanatory phrase, it’s rather like old exactly what it says on the tin titles. (Warning: TV Tropes link)

Book II is therefore Delphinium: A Necromancer’s Love

(Yes, I’m still using necro-mancer. It’s easier, everyone knows what I mean even if it isn’t the in-universe term. Pierre might just do a little bit of necromancy so I can call it that without feeling bad about breaking canon.)

Summer

My final final is tomorrow. Essay due before 4pm. Meaning, after 4pm I am free. For a little while. I have summer classes (all online) and my boyfriend will be in town for two weeks (we’re long distance, haven’t seen each other in person in 3 years). But aside from that… summer gets devoted to writing.

I will plot out and find a reasonable deadline for Delphinium. It will be done this summer. How early or late in summer depends on how quickly I get my ass in gear, but it will be this summer. I’ve started the writing thing, no more dragging and breaking deadlines for months at a time. It’s a job now. An amazingly fun and awesome job, but a job.

Now, stories: There is  Famula, the side-novel about Ophion and Eglė, which has been a little sketched out. And I want to start a series in Ibella and probably Astrarctia soon as well. Going to try and not juggle a thousand works at a time, but I’ll be busy. I want to get to where I can write at a stupidly fast pace and just let my worlds and characters finally be.
